Music

Margaret believes in the power of music to convey spiritual truths in ways that words alone cannot do. She often composes original songs to commemorate milestones in the lives of friends and family. And audiences are often surprised and delighted when she stops in the middle of a sermon to perform an original composition.
Music has always been an integral part of Margaret’s life. An early memory is the time Margaret’s mother took her entire brood as well as the neighbors’ kids to the “old folks home” to sing for the residents. Margaret took one look at the audience, bolted from the room, ran down the steps and climbed into the back seat of the car. Her mother patiently coaxed her back into the big living room and got her interested in singing “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins. Something magical happened as she performed the moves, stepping in time with the other children. She’s been hooked on musical performance ever since.

WWMD?
When I was growing up, I was encouraged to ask, when confronted with a choice about how to behave, “What Would Jesus Do?” I tried that for a while. After months of trying to imitate Jesus, my closest friends were unanimous in their opinion that any resemblance between me and Jesus was purely coincidental. So lately, I’ve been asking myself a better question, “What would Margaret do?” What if the real Margaret decided to show up instead of hiding behind her shyness? Instead of cowering behind a wall of safety? Instead of coming to the party wearing a mask? Isn’t this true of each of us? We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. What would the real YOU do? All we really need to do to please God is to show up.
