In the Jewish scriptures we find an image of peace that boggles the imagination. We are invited to consider that predators can live peaceably with the vulnerable. That those who have been victims will trust those that have exploited them. | The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. |
This week our hearts go out to those in Israel and Gaza. Will this troubled region ever again know peace? We all have our own battlegrounds—from squabbles within our own families to the ongoing culture wars within our land. According to the prophet, the vision for peace is led by children. Perhaps this does not just mean those who are young in biological age. Perhaps it also means that we need to all access the “child within.” If we are ever to see the kingdom of peace, dear friends, we're going to need the child in each of us—the child in you.
